Emergency Changes to the Land Use Process

An important way for you to participate in the land use process and protect your water resources at the local level is through your local commissions. Zoning, conservation and inland, wetland and watercourses commissions all have a say in approvals and conditions for projects at the municipal level.

If you have been following a development in your town you might have assumed that all business has been put on hold.

Governor Lamont has signed Executive Orders 7B & 7L making some changes so that our land use commissions can continue to do business while our government buildings are closed and we all find alternate solutions to in-person meetings. While this may sound alarming, many of these changes will actually make it easier to monitor issues of concern from your own home. And some of these changes we hope will remain permanent.

UCONN CLEAR recently hosted a very informative webinar that we strongly encourage you to watch if you would like to understand what your town must do to ensure that you as a citizen can continue to participate in the land use process and decisions made that may impact your waterways and wetlands as we navigate the changes that COVID 19 has brought about in our lives.

And if you need help, Rivers Alliance is here! As always!
