{"id":15325,"date":"2025-07-07T09:01:32","date_gmt":"2025-07-07T13:01:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eastwindsorchamber.com\/site\/?p=15325"},"modified":"2025-07-15T07:16:56","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T11:16:56","slug":"senator-anwar-visits-east-windsor-security-firm-backs-veterans-job-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eastwindsorchamber.com\/site\/senator-anwar-visits-east-windsor-security-firm-backs-veterans-job-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"Senator Anwar Visits East Windsor Security Firm, Backs Veterans Job Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<p>State Senator Saud Anwar of Connecticut\u2019s 3rd District visited Orion Protective Services last week to learn more about a new workforce initiative launched by the East Windsor-based, veteran-owned security firm.<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15326\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eastwindsorchamber.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/OrionTeamAnwar0625.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The program, known as\u00a0<em>Boots to Badges<\/em>, is designed to help active-duty military members and veterans transition into civilian careers by reimbursing the costs associated with becoming a licensed professional security guard.<\/p>\n<p>Although the state of Connecticut waives certain requirements for veterans\u2014such as the 8-hour training class and $100 application fee\u2014several out-of-pocket expenses remain.<\/p>\n<p>These costs include fingerprinting, state and FBI background checks, and passport photos, add $160 to the process.<\/p>\n<p>Under the <em>Boots to Badges<\/em>\u00a0program, Orion reimburses those charges for eligible veterans and service members who commit to working with the company for at least three months. In Massachusetts, where the licensing process differs, Orion reimburses the $40 fee for the Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-15327\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eastwindsorchamber.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/EdRamsdellSenAnwar.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1440\" height=\"1920\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Orion President\/CEO Edward Ramsdell and State Senator Saud Anwar<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe recognize the immense value that military experience brings to the security field,\u201d said Orion President and CEO Edward Ramsdell. \u201cThe discipline, leadership, and commitment veterans offer make them an excellent fit for this work. By reimbursing these costs, we\u2019re helping them move forward without financial strain as they start the next phase of their careers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for this program, applicants must have been honorably discharged within the past two years, or be an active-duty service member or military reservist from any branch of service.<\/p>\n<p>After the visit, Senator Anwar shared his thoughts in a public statement, calling it a \u201cpowerful meeting\u201d with a veteran-owned organization doing \u201ccritical work to support and employ those who\u2019ve served.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He praised the <em>Boots to Badges<\/em>\u00a0program for building a bridge between service and opportunity, noting its focus on career readiness and support for transitioning service members. \u201cGrateful for the chance to learn more and explore how we can strengthen this work together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Through\u00a0<em>Boots to Badges<\/em>, Orion is doing more than offering employment\u2014it\u2019s actively removing barriers that can stand between service\u00a0members obtaining civilian careers.
