President’s Message<\/h3>\n

As you can see from the photo above we are a college that enjoys spending time together. We continued the successful Eagle Challenge with some fun indoor bowling, golfing and bean bag challenges to chase the winter blues away. A day of spring like temperatures has all of us anxiously awaiting the time when we can enjoy outdoor activities again!<\/p>\n

ACC’s Foundation will be holding its annual Murder Mystery for the first time here at Asnuntuck, in our new conference center, on March 23rd. Please read this month’s newsletter to learn more information about the evening and ways you can help support this important and fun event!<\/p>\n

CSCU has been engaged in a partnership with CPTV to produce a documentary about our system and public higher education in our state overall. Asnuntuck is among the 17 institutions featured. The entire documentary can be viewed\u00a0online<\/a>. Please share this link with families and individuals that you know, who are looking at higher education options.<\/p>\n

ACC to Co-Sponsor Yard Goats’
\nMilitary Family of the Game<\/strong>
\nAsnuntuck Community College and Tunxis Community College are proud to be this year’s sponsor of the Military Family of the Game, for the Hartford Yard Goats 2018 Baseball Season. A different military family will be selected to go on the field for the National Anthem and receive four free tickets to one of the 70 home games for the Hartford Yard Goats at Dunkin’ Donuts Park in Hartford. ACC’s Changing Lives Talk Show
\nFeatures Chris Casey and Keith Madore<\/strong>
\nDr. Lombella, President of Asnuntuck and Tunxis Community Colleges, hosted this month’s episode of Changing Lives. Chris Casey, of Chris Casey Concepts and ACC’s Director of Institutional Advancement and Community Engagement Keith Madore were President Lombella’s guests. The show’s topic centered around the many ways the community can help support the college. Asnuntuck\u2019s \u201cChanging Lives\u201d program is produced by volunteers and airs on PATV 15 on Thursdays at 8 p.m. and Fridays at 11 a.m. It can also be viewed online by going to the website\u00a0www.patv15.com<\/a>-Enfield-Schedule \u2013 Asnuntuck Changing Lives. \nCareer Chats with Cat Carter will be held on Tuesday, March 6th. Career Chats are 15-20 minute one-on-one discussions with our career advisor, Cat Carter. Cat will review your resume, help you prepare for an interview, or talk about choosing a major.\u00a0 No appointments are necessary. First come, first served. ACC Student to Earn 2 Degrees and
\nWorks as Manager at Allied’s Attic<\/strong>
\nAsnuntuck student Marisol Suarez will earn her Associate\u2019s degree in Criminal Justice in December and her Associate\u2019s degree in Human Services next May. Checkpoint Chocolate Held at Asnuntuck<\/strong>
\nACC held a Checkpoint Chocolate event on Valentine’s Day. Dr. Lombella stopped by. This event was designed to help people connect to one another. Each participant was given 3 pieces of chocolate that they could then give to 3 people that they wanted to check-in on. Spoonie Central Begins at Asnuntuck<\/strong>
\nA disability group by students for students has been established at Asnuntuck. The group meets on Tuesdays from 3-4 p.m. in Room 220. Information regarding accessibility at transfer schools will be discussed. Members of the club will plan and participate in events to spread awareness about disabilities. Yoga Classes Begin at Asnuntuck<\/strong>
\nInstructors Diana Ricci Gunther and Terry Stearns will offer 10-week sessions of Kripalu \u201cAll Levels\u201d Yoga at Asnuntuck Community College this month. The sessions will focus on gentle, therapeutic yoga poses. The instructors will provide students with easy-to-understand instructions in a fun, low-key atmosphere. Asnuntuck Community College Foundation is currently accepting applications for scholarships to ACC. High school and continuing educations students can apply. Visit the\u00a0website<\/a>\u00a0for an application. The deadline for scholarship applications is 4 p.m. on Monday, April 9th<\/sup>\u00a0submitted to the Financial Aid Office.<\/div>\n

The Vagina Monologues Staged at Asnuntuck

\nAsnuntuck Community College presented a one-night only benefit reading of Eve Ensler\u2019s award winning play\u00a0The Vagina Monologues\u00a0<\/em>at Asnuntuck Community College.\u00a0Kathryn D. Pepe directed the play. \u00a0Over the past two decades, tens of thousands of communities and college campuses have staged V-Day benefit performances of\u00a0The Vagina Monologues<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 and other artistic works, in more than 200 countries and territories. All proceeds benefited the YMCA Sexual Assault Center Service-New Britain.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Campus Advocate Supports ACC’s Students<\/strong><\/div>\n

Amanda is the Campus Advocate of the Sexual Assault Crisis Service (SACS), a program of the YWCA New Britain. Amanda began as a counselor\/advocate in 2016, and was previously involved with social change and anti-oppression work in Hartford.<\/p>\n

As Campus Advocate, Amanda provides counseling, advocacy, education, and outreach to college students in the area, including those at Asnuntuck Community College.<\/p>\n

Amanda is a free and confidential resource for sexual violence survivors and their loved ones. She can meet with you on campus for short-term counseling in a confidential space.
