President’s Message<\/h3>\n

Spring is always an exciting time on Asnuntuck’s campus. We have a building full of activities and students working hard to complete their final weeks of studying. I am excited to join the college’s Phi Theta Kappa\u00a0(PTK)<\/a>\u00a0chapter when they travel to Kansas City, MO, at the end of this month. The Chapter and its members will be accepting 7 awards, and I am honored to be receiving the organization’s Shirley B. Gordon Award of Distinction, during their convention. See the article in this month’s newsletter, to learn more about their awards.<\/p>\n

This past month Asnuntuck’s Foundation held their 15th Annual Murder Mystery, for the first time at the college. It was a wonderful night of entertainment and fundraising for scholarships. The evening was an excellent way for members of the community to see the college’s new Tower Lobby and Conference Center. See above for a photo of\u00a0Cafe Murder’s<\/em>\u00a0cast. Coca-Cola Scholar<\/strong><\/p>\n

Asnuntuck student\u00a0<\/strong>Victoria Orifice,\u00a0<\/strong>has been selected as a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar\u00a0<\/strong>and will receive a $1,250 scholarship!<\/p>\n

Selection as a Coca-Cola Silver Scholar was based on scores the student earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received this year. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.<\/p>\n

Phi Theta Kappa will recognize the 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars on stage at PTK Catalyst, Phi Theta Kappa\u2019s Annual Convention, April 19-21 in Kansas City, Missouri.<\/p>\n

Victoria was one of the 50 silver scholars selected in the nation.\u00a0 In addition, she will be serving as the New England\u2019s President for Phi Theta Kappa next year, along with Dee Chamberlain as New England\u2019s Southern Vice President.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Phi Theta Kappa!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Asnuntuck’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter recently attended the New England Regional Convention. \u00a0They came back to campus with many awards:<\/p>\n

    The keynote speaker for the convention was Asnuntuck’s Career Advisor Cat Carter.<\/p>\n

    The group will be heading to Catalyst, the International Convention for Phi Theta Kappa, in Kansas City, Missouri, from April 18-22.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

    New Hours for Library<\/strong>\u00a0and Homework Lab<\/strong><\/p>\n

    In order to better meet the needs of our students the hours for the Library and Homework Lab have been adjusted.<\/p>\n

    The new\u00a0Library<\/strong>\u00a0hours are:<\/p>\n

    Monday – Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

    Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

    Saturday: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

    The new\u00a0Homework Lab<\/strong>\u00a0hours are:<\/p>\n

    Monday – Thursday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

    The Guild and Spoonie Present Guardians of the Galaxy\u00a0<\/strong>

    \nFriday, April 6th is free movie day at Asnuntuck. A double feature of Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 1 and Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 will start at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium. At 2:45 p.m. there will be free pizza for everyone. Volume 2 will begin at 3:15 p.m., with free popcorn being served. The movies are open to students, faculty, staff, friends and family.     Family Feud at Asnuntuck<\/strong><\/p>\n
    This month’s Eagle Challenge will be Family Feud for students versus faculty and staff. The challenge will take place on April 4th from 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. in the Digital Lounge (Room 130). Students can enter to win a $15 gift card from Arnie’s Corner Cafe.
