Needless to say, 2020 has been an extraordinary year for all of us thus far, threatening both our health and financial well being. Life will get back to normal but for now we hope that you and your family are safe and secure.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Like most other businesses, the Museum has taken a substantial financial hit due to the shutdown. We were due to open in mid-April for our Easter Bunny Fun Day event but it now appears\u00a0that we will be shut down until sometime in June. We are cautiously\u00a0optimistic that we will be able to resume operations then and our staff and volunteers are looking forward to seeing you!<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
The Museum’s annual operating budget is approximately $400,000, 75% of which is derived from general admissions, birthday parties, special events and gift shop sales. Although the April-June quarter is our slowest, we will still have sustained a loss of approximately $35,000 which will be difficult, if not impossible to make up. This is equivalent to our electric bill for the year. When we resume operations, we anticipate fewer visitors than last year until things calm down.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Our original fund raising\u00a0goal for the year to support the operating budget was $53,000 and we have gotten off to a good start with close to $20,000 being pledged or contributed by early April. Now, more than ever, we will be forced to rely on contributions to get us through this year.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
With our current shut down status, some of our anticipated expenses have been reduced and a Board appointed committee is recommending other actions to reduce expenses.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
We still have ambitious plans for this operating season. On the drawing board are improvements to our grounds, maintenance and repair work on several of our trolleys, capital improvements in the Visitor Center, work on the tracks, signals and overhead power distribution system, new exhibits and more special events.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
Any financial help that you could provide now would be greatly welcomed and will help to keep things up and running until the crisis passes. If you are in a position to help, please consider making a donation.<\/div>\n

Please note that CERA\/CTM is a 501C3 non profit organization, and your donation is likely tax deductible. As part of the Federal Relief package – the CARES Act – taxpayers will be able to deduct up to $300 of their charitable donations for this year on their 2020 tax returns even if they do not itemize their deductions.<\/div>\n
