Connecticut Trolley Museum has someTrolley Trivia!

Did you know that trolley cars were often repurposed and sold to other trolley companies when trolley companies closed? When the Springfield Street Railway in Springfield MA, shut down trolley service on June 22, 1940, 39 trolley cars were sold to Montreal Tramways. Upon arrival, they were modified and the length extended 18 inches on each end, a modification that has wreaked havoc on the structure of these trolleys ever since.
Our Montreal Tramways #2056 was one of the trolley cars that started in Springfield MA in 1927 and was sold to Montreal! Originally, this car was #575 for the Springfield Street Railway. Car #594 (pictured) is an identical trolley to #575 and shows what our #2056 would have looked like before sale and conversions.
Trolley #2056 came to the trolley museum in 1959, along with #2600 and Crane W-1.
Montreal #2600 is one of the closed trolleys you can ride during Winterfest and the Tunnel of Lights!
